Introducing Sean Lerwill

Sean is an former-Royal Marines Commando Officer & Physical Training Instructor. He has been published as a writer five times and is an active British Krav Maga Instructor.

“The British Krav Maga Association Instructors course is by far the most enjoyable yet taxing course I have undertaken since leaving the Royal Marines.

The course is essentially split across three aims: teaching us, assessing our coaching/teaching and seeing if we are physically and mentally appropriate as well as personally responsible enough to instruct for the BKMA.

The teaching and assessing elements are delivered in a relaxed and open manner. Paul and Mark are both superb instructors and are open to all questions and discussion on techniques, whys and whatfors. A light hearted approach is mixed perfectly with the very real subject of self defence/violence, leading to a perfect learning environment.

The assessment of would be instructors guts and determination in the form of physical and mental robustness was perhaps more than I expected, but made for a superb end to the course and the feeling of really earning ones place in the organisation.

I have put myself through some very physically and mentally arduous courses during my previous military career and this course put me back into that mind frame.

‘the form of physical and mental robustness was perhaps more than I expected, but made for a superb end to the course and the feeling of really earning ones place in the organisation.’

‘lectures on litigation, learning styles and teaching/coaching methods were all well thought through and excellently delivered.’

Testing the Krav Maga skills learned and honed to the limit with pressure tests and the like to ensure the course members were of the right standard to deliver them to other people.

Delivery to others isn’t just about enduring physical and mental robustness of course, it’s also about being the right fit for someone who is going to teach the techniques of this unique organisation in the fashion shown; in a responsible and trustworthy manner.

The cerebral elements of the course are also worth a mention, lectures on litigation, learning styles and teaching/coaching methods were all well thought through and excellently delivered. The facilities utilised for the course were superb, creating a great learning environment.

I cannot fault this course and am so pleased I decided to do it. One word of warning though, it’s unlike any other fitness industry course I have undertaken in the civilian world.

It is far more like that experienced in the military and anyone wanting to attend should prepare themselves appropriately.”
